Our Story
About Foodsavers Corp
Food Savers was born out of Yale’s 2020 Center for Biomedical Innovation and Technology (CBIT) Hackathon event. The entire event was carried out over the course of three days. The Food Savers team was assembled after a pitch was made to work on an idea that addressed food waste of produce in our food system by bridging the gap between food charities and food donors while simultaneously increasing the variety of produce available to food charity clients. The team was composed of the following members: Aliza Gazek, Jordan Lue, Olufemi Ojo, Patrick Scarborough, Jeannie Su, and Peter Zapata.
After the Hackathon was over, most of the team disbanded but Peter and Olufemi, with the help of additional volunteer board members, continued working on Food Savers to make it into a non-profit organization, Foodsavers Corp is now a 501c(3) non-profit. As a start-up non-profit, the most challenging part of starting Food Savers was finding the funding to get it off the ground, but with much work, persistence and faith we have gotten Food Savers to where it is today, but this is just the beginning! We are currently building the beta version and looking for additional funds and resources to complete it, stay tuned for more updates via our newsletter.
